MEDITATION: Shinrin-yoku. First time in the beach in a long time, due to my knee injury and subsequent replacement. What a marvelous day back! Not one but two larger Chesapecten madisonius.

read moreFound. This. Meg. Today! Storm coming in, blustery as can be, but still went to the beach because it’s supposed to drop to freezing later this week. And what a spectacular day it turned out to be! Found my first whole meg, a horse tooth, two good sized lower makos (one lost and one given to the nice people who joined me in my happy dance!), and even a few pectens! 179 teeth total.
MEDITATION: Shinrin-yoku. Also thinking a lot about life, death, forgiveness….and the power of silence.
Clinch Jetties
read moreRecord breaker! The most amazing day – shell beds never stopped, the weather was clear and beautiful, the beach was empty (on a Saturday!!). It all came together to make the most relaxing and spiritual day in a long time. Stopping to appreciate the Earth every time I found a feather was amazing: Path of the Feather!
Found sixty five (!!) pectens – eight large 5+inches, two horse teeth, two large teeth, some verts, and coral.

Clinch Jetties to North Beach & back
read moreReally marvelous day on the East Coast; nothing at all South, but great beds further North for just a small stretch. I especially appreciated the bounty after so many beach trips with Eva — no time for beachcombing! But totally worth it to be able to get to know her.
Found several good pectens, a horse tooth, a sea robin skull, and lots and lots of coral.
Much meditation on the fam situation. I am feeling better about decisions I’ve made.

read moreAnother really great Pecten day. Not sure if it’s because it’s now winter, or because Ian just blasted through, or both – but the shell beds are back. Bonus: the glorious upper 70’s weather. Perfect for sitting in the surf, digging my heals into the sand, and feeling part of nature. I am so blessed.

Covered 7.8 miles in the roughly 2 mile stretch of beach, doing grid searches on top of the beds. Had a most heavenly experience digging my heels in the sand and lounging in the surf. Gorgeous sparkling water, sun warm but not too hot, just spectacular. Really grounding.

read moreCrazy day, one of my best pecten days ever — and I almost left after finding four at Clinch. A storm rolled in, the wind picked up, and I decided to play it safe. By the time I got to Atlantic Street, things had cleared up quite a bit so I stopped at Main Beach. Again, I almost left because the shell beds weren’t great, and there was still some scattered lightening. I saw some beds up to the North, so headed that way and hit the jackpot!
Found C. Madisonius, C. Septenarius, C. Jeffersonius, Carolinapecten eborus, Argopecten comparilis, and one that I think is Argopecten eboreus solarioides (based upon images from Lee Creek Mines). Three extra large great specimens!

Found another small one later, along with the first good amount of Wentletraps – the most in a long while, which makes me think that it is Winter. Wentletrap Winter. I wish conch cove was still there, wonder if I’ll find them on the sandbar which used to be Conch cove…
